All pupils are provided with 60 minutes timetabled P.E. per week as a minimum.
All teachers teach at least 5 of the 6 P.E. strands – Aquatics, Athletics, Dance, Gymnastics, Games, Out door and Adventure – each year.
All pupils from infants to 6th class attend swimming lessons in the local pool this year.
Our school teaches the Land PAWS water safety programme to sixth class students.
Teachers endeavour to allocate a balanced amount of teaching time to each of the different strands.
Teachers work together to strengthen their delivery of a different P.E. strand each year. We use the P.S.S.I. lesson plans and Move Well, Move Often resources to guide our delivery of the P.E. programme.
Our school ensures that P.E. activities are planned so that they are accessible to all.
Members of staff regularly undertake C.P.D. in P.E. and ideas and resources are shared among staff.
Each child’s progress is discussed with parents at P/T meetings and feedback included in the child’s end of year report.
Our P.E. equipment and resources are organized and safely kept in our P.E. store.
This year we are focused extensively on Fundamental Movement Skills for the whole school with our “Wake Up Shake Up” initiative. The whole school gathers every Friday to participate in 30 minutes of exercise led by teachers based around the Move Well Move Often programme, teaching basic skills and concepts. We love starting the weekend with our energy filled Friday’s and gathering as a whole school.
